VeeLang Arc Deep Dive! 🌈

Create beautiful curves and flowing designs with VeeLang arcs

Welcome Curve Artists! 🎨

Lines are straight, circles are round, but arcs? Arcs are the perfect blend of both! An arc is like a piece of a circle — it curves gracefully between two points. Think of rainbows, smiles, bridges, and doorways — they're all arcs!

Your First Arc 🌉

The simplest way to draw an arc:

// Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white
draw arc from 10,10 to 100,50 having radius 40

This creates a curved line that starts at 10,10, ends at 100,50, and curves with a radius of 40. It's like drawing part of a circle that would have that radius!

Arc Properties — Shape Your Curves! 🎯

  • Essential Properties 📏
  • radius — How curved your arc is (bigger = more curved)

  • Curve Size Properties 📐

  • curve — Choose how the arc wraps: "small" (default) or "big"

  • Style Properties 🎨

  • color — The color of your arc line (same as stroke)
  • stroke — Outline color for the arc
  • thickness — How thick your arc line is
// Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white
draw arc from 0,0 to 100,100 having radius 30, color "red", thickness 2

Important: Arcs are like lines — they don't have fill because there's no "inside" to fill!

Understanding Arc Curves 🤔

Here's something cool: between any two points, you can draw TWO different arcs with the same radius — a small curve and a big curve!

  • Small Curve (Default) veelang // Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white draw arc from 0,0 to 100,0 having radius 50

  • Big Curve veelang // Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white draw arc from 0,0 to 100,0 having radius 50, curve "big"

Think of it like this: Imagine you're walking from one point to another. You could take the short curvy path, or the long curvy path that goes way around!

Arc Properties You Can Access! 📍

When you name an arc, VeeLang remembers these important points:

  • start — Where the arc begins (the first coordinate)
  • end — Where the arc ends (the second coordinate)
// Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white
draw arc a1 from 10,10 to 50,60 having radius 25
draw line l1 from a1.start to a1.end

This draws an arc, then draws a straight line connecting the same two points — perfect for showing the difference!

Arc Naming — All Your Options! 🏷️

Just like other shapes, you have flexible ways to create arcs:

  • Option 1: Create First, Draw Later veelang // Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white arc bridge from 100,200 to 300,200 having radius 80, color "brown", thickness 4 draw bridge

  • Option 2: Create and Draw Together veelang // Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white draw arc bridge from 100,200 to 300,200 having radius 80, color "brown", thickness 4

  • Option 3: Draw Without Naming veelang // Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white draw arc from 100,200 to 300,200 having radius 80, color "brown", thickness 4

  • Example 2: Smiling Face veelang // Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white draw circle face at 200,200 having radius 80, color "yellow" draw circle at 180,180 having radius 8, color "black" // Left eye draw circle at 220,180 having radius 8, color "black" // Right eye draw arc from 170,230 to 230,230 having radius 40, color "black", thickness 3 // Smile

  • Example 3: Bridge Over Water veelang // Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white draw rectangle water at 50,250 having width 300, length 100, color "lightblue" draw arc bridge from water.topLeft to water.topRight having radius 100, color "gray", thickness 6

  • Example 4: Connecting Shapes veelang // Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white draw rectangle house1 at 100,200 having width 60, length 80, color "lightcoral" draw rectangle house2 at 300,200 having width 60, length 80, color "lightgreen" draw arc road from house1.bottomRight to house2.bottomLeft having radius 60, color "darkgray", thickness 4

Big vs Small Curves — The Visual Difference! 📊

// Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white
// Small curves (default)
draw arc from 100,100 to 200,100 having radius 50, color "blue", thickness 3
draw arc from 100,150 to 200,150 having radius 75, color "blue", thickness 3

// Big curves
draw arc from 100,200 to 200,200 having radius 50, curve "big", color "red", thickness 3
draw arc from 100,250 to 200,250 having radius 75, curve "big", color "red", thickness 3

Pro Tip: Try drawing the same arc with both curve settings to see the difference!

Arcs in the Real World! 🌍

Arcs are everywhere around us:

  • 🌈 Rainbows: Perfect natural arcs in the sky
  • 🏗️ Bridges: Arched bridges are strong and beautiful
  • 🚪 Doorways: Arched doorways in castles and churches
  • 😊 Smiles: The curve of a happy face
  • 🏀 Sports: The path of a basketball shot
  • 🎪 Architecture: Domes and curved roofs

Challenge Time! 🏆

  • 🌟 Challenge 1: Perfect Rainbow — Create a colorful rainbow using multiple arcs with different radii
  • 🌟 Challenge 2: Sad and Happy Faces — Draw two circles, one with an upward arc (smile) and one with a downward arc (frown)
  • 🌟 Challenge 3: Tunnel Entrance — Create a rectangle and add an arc on top to make it look like a tunnel
  • 🌟 Challenge 4: Bouncing Ball Path — Use multiple arcs to show the bouncing path of a ball
  • 🌟 Challenge 5: Arc Connector — Create two shapes and connect them with a curved arc instead of a straight line

Understanding Radius and Curves 🔍

  • Radius Effects:
  • Small radius (10–30): Gentle, subtle curves
  • Medium radius (40–80): Nice, noticeable curves
  • Large radius (100+): Deep, dramatic curves

  • When to Use Big vs Small Curves:

  • Small curve: When you want the shorter path
  • Big curve: When you want a dramatic, swooping curve that goes the long way around
// Default canvas: 800 wide, 600 tall, white
// Compare these two:
draw arc from 100,100 to 200,100 having radius 60, color "green", thickness 4
draw arc from 100,150 to 200,150 having radius 60, curve "big", color "purple", thickness 4

Pro Tips for Arc Masters! 💡

  • Planning Your Arcs
  • Start with the two points you want to connect
  • Experiment with different radius values to get the curve you want
  • Try both small and big curves to see which looks better

  • Radius Guidelines

  • Use the distance between your points as a starting point for radius
  • Smaller radius = gentler curve
  • Larger radius = more dramatic curve

  • Color and Thickness

  • Use thicker arcs for bold, structural elements (bridges, smiles)
  • Use thinner arcs for delicate details (decorations, light curves)

  • Combining with Other Shapes

  • Use arc start and end points to connect with other shapes
  • Arcs work great with circles and rectangles for complex designs

Arc vs Line vs Circle 📐

Think of arcs as the bridge between lines and circles!

  • Line — Best for straight connections; key feature: direct path
  • Arc — Best for curved connections; key feature: graceful curves
  • Circle — Best for complete round shapes; key feature: closed loop
